Product
Seeing as my essential question/ topic pertains to aerosol art and how it can be either vandalism and/or art, my product will be reflective of those two. Since my sophomore year I’ve been asked to work on a proposal in order for me to paint the stairwells leading up to the loft, because one’s perception is usually opinion, I was thinking that for my product I could paint the two stairwells with the same theme, but in two totally extreme styles, for example, I’m going to paint one stairwell as mural wall, with the theme of ‘Class of 2010’ it is going to be a mural, with obvious influences from graffiti. And for the other stair well, I could keep a theme of ‘street tags’ or illegal graffiti, the type of graffiti that you would see on the streets. Using the two stairwells I will then explain the difference between the two and how the two are essentially built off of the same qualities. Also, I will use prime examples of graffiti artists who started off as ‘bombers’ or ‘taggers’ and have now become internationally known artist who paint legal walls in countries across the world.
In addition to this, I will also provide interviews with my sources. My sources are going to vary from, Graffiti Writers themselves,
Presentation
For my presentation I will present both sides of the issue, in order to do so, I will use quotes from the interviews and snippets of the video interviews to support certain points. Art is essentially opinion and because this is a fact that is obvious to me, and because I know this I will try to present the information as unbiased as possible. With my presentation I will provide photographs or other forms of examples of graffiti, both what is considered ‘Vandalism’ and what is considered ‘Art’ both legal and illegal. Of course the interviews that I will hold with the experts that I have contacted will play a large role of my presentation because I will use them essentially to back the facts that I am presenting, because when it comes to graffiti, it is quite apparent that people will have their opinions and just as most issues in today’s world there is a civil manner that we can go about discussing the topic. Also, through the presentation I will provide similarities and differences between the act of how both the ‘Artistic’ side and the ’Vandalism’ side is done. For example I will provide video footage of myself painting/demonstrating and explaining different types of graffiti and comparing the two. Because the graffiti itself is almost like a completely different language and is mostly only known amongst graffiti writers, I will also provide my audience with a glossary of terms before the actual start of my presentation, this is specifically for the fact that my audience will most likely not know some of the graffiti terms mentioned through out the presentation.
Paper
My Paper is essentially going to be the journey that i took in order to complete my project, from the time it took for me to choose my topic, to the completion of the project. it will essentially reflect the knowledge and understanding and i will answer the following. How i chose my topic. How i decided on my essential question. The answer to my essential question. How my product reflects my journey and my discovery. What influences are evident in my final product. And what reflections i can share about the process of the project, and the progress that i made in doing the project.
